Our Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), which includes EMT-Paramedics, respond to over 150 emergency 9-1-1 medical calls each year.
To help our EMTs provide the very best service to you and your family, consider the following:
- Dixon EMS ambulance services should always be accessed by calling 9-1-1. We can only respond to medical calls on the instruction of a 9-1-1 operator.
- Ensure access to your home. Our rescue apparatus (ambulance) is 24 feet long x 8 feet wide, and requires 9 feet clearance. If there are gates, make sure they are opened. If there are dogs, make sure they are penned. Time is of the essence with medical calls and we need to access the patient as soon as possible.
- Dixon EMS cannot respond quickly to your location if your address is not clearly marked and visible from the roadway. Always provide the 9-1-1 operator with a call-back phone number where you can be reliably reached if Dixon EMS needs additional directions.
- Keep important medical records and medications in one place that can be quickly accessed in the event of an emergency. Upon arrival, one of the first questions our EMTs will ask about both medical history and current medications.
- Consider Emergency Medical Services Advance Directives, including Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) orders and Medical Orders for Scope of Treatment (MOST). Both documents and more information about these orders are available at the New Mexico Department of Public Health website https://www.nmhealth.org/about/erd/emsb/advd/
