DVFD Community Chipping Program

The Dixon Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) is committed to enhancing community safety and resilience by providing seasonal chipping services to help homeowners safely process hazardous fuels. Our community chipping project serves as a vital resource for low-income families, elderly residents, and all other community members who may need assistance in managing wildfire risks.

Using our commercial-grade chipper and funds raised to hire professional tree services, DVFD helps local residents clear and dispose of brush, limbs, and other flammable debris that could fuel wildfires. By reducing the need for burn piles, our chipping service significantly lowers fire hazards and promotes safer, more fire-resistant properties.

Each year, DVFD serves between 30 and 70 properties, depending on community need and available resources. Our seasonal chipping services are typically offered during the winter and spring months, helping homeowners prepare for fire season and keep their properties clear of dangerous fuel sources.

Whether you're looking to reduce fire risk or need help with debris removal, the DVFD is here to assist. Contact us at dixonnmvfd@gmail.com for more information or to sign up for chipping services. New chipping days will be announced on the Embudo Valley Town Crier, on flyers posted throughout Dixon, and on Facebook. Let’s work together to keep our community safe from wildfires.

Prepare for chipping:

DON'T

• Create a big tangled pile!
• Include rocks, dirt, trash, fence posts, barbed wire, etc. CHIPPABLE BRANCHES ONLY

DO

• Create smaller piles that one person can carry, with butts facing one direction; longer branches are easier to chip: keep ‘em long!
Organize piles that are easily accessible to large truck and chipper (on a trailer)
**CHIPPER CAN ACCEPT UP TO 12 INCH DIAMETER BRANCHES. LEAVE YOUR PIECES LONG.**
