IF YOU’RE GOING TO BURN, FIRST OBTAIN A PERMIT AND THEN CALL IT IN!
- All outdoor burning requires a valid Burn Permit issued by Rio Arriba County.
- Call Rio Arriba County Fire & Emergency Services (505) 747-6367 weekdays to obtain a permit. You will receive an application to fill out and then submit to the County. Once your application is approved, your permit is valid indefinitely and does not expire.
- Outdoor burning is restricted to yard waste; burning of trash is never permitted.
- Outdoor burning is only allowed on weekend days (Saturday & Sunday) during daylight hours. Do not burn if it is windy.
- Outdoor burning is NOT allowed on national holidays and holiday weekends.
- Outdoor burning is prohibited at all times if Rio Arriba County declares a burn ban. Sign up for Nixle Local Emergency alerts to always get the latest burn ban info.
- With a permit, outdoor burns must be phoned into (505) 753-5555 at least 20 minutes before burning.
- Dixon VFD must respond to all 9-1-1 calls made by citizens who have concerns about a burn.
- All outdoor burning should be carefully supervised with an adequate water source available.
- Dixon VFD has the authority to extinguish any illegal burn or any burn that is not under control.
A Burn Permit is not valid until it has been approved by the Rio Arriba office and returned to you.
